Intensive Language Courses - Department German as a Foreign Language

Due to the corona pandemic, the International Summer Courses are unfortunately cancelled im 2020.


International Summer Courses 
For years now, language courses for students from all over the world have been held at Heinrich Heine University during the summer holidays. We organise intensive courses for language levels A2 to C1 and offer a varied recreational programme in the afternoon that will enable you to get to know Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.


Information on courses

Course phase I:  
Course phase II:  
Language level: Beginners, intermediate and advanced: Level A2 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Languages (CEF), that means you have already had approx. 200 hours of German classes.
Please note: No courses for beginners (Level A1).
Placement test: On the first day of each course phase, a written placement test will take place to find out the right course level to suit you. Using an approved textbook you will study German for two or four weeks at this course level.


Content: Learn, brush up and develop general language skills, oral and written comprehension with current texts, exercises on grammar, vocabulary and idioms, improve oral skills and the ability to express yourself in writing, intercultural studies on geography/history, German movies and everyday culture.

Certificate of successful participation at the end of the course.
Credit points: 2 ECTS per course phase (2 weeks).
Participants: Only for students from partner universities and DAAD scholarship holders
Minimum age: 18
Course size: 10 - 16 participants per group, several groups
Duration: 40 hours per course phase
+ ca. 10 hours of excursions
Teaching hours: Monday to Friday from 9.00 am till 10.30 am and 11.00 am till 12.30 pm
4 lessons lasting 45 minutes per day
Course fee: 275,- € one course phase (two weeks)
550,- € two course phases (four weeks)
Additional costs: textbook (price approx. 22,- €)
Insurance: The course fee does not cover medical and accident insurance. Participants need to cover the costs of medical care by themselves. We strongly recommend you to take out health insurance in your home country before departure.

Please book your accommodation yourself in Düsseldorf in good time. Unfortunately, we are not able to arrange accomodation.

In 2020 we will provide a list for orientation.
